Ah, denim shorts. There’s few articles of clothing I despise less. Yet, jean shorts are what I live in practically every day throughout the summer! There’s no denying just how easy they are, especially when you’re a denim and tee-kinda girl like me.
Last summer I made-do with shorts I already had. Never mind that most were too big thanks to my recent weight loss or the wrong inseam that didn’t inspire comfort or confidence. Honestly, in the midst of the pandemic and barely leaving the house, I didn’t care too much how I looked or felt! I’m sure many of you can relate. Plus, spending money on new clothes was not a top priority.
With this coming summer season looking more hopeful (and social!) than last, I figured it was time to finally find a pair or two of denim shorts that I actually feel good about. Well, not only did this take me barely any time at all, but I also was surprised (but like, not really) where I found denim shorts gold.
Shocking, right? (Again, not really). The Universal Thread line at Target is usually hit or miss for me in the bottoms department, but for whatever reason this year’s High-Rise Jean Shorts style and fit does it for me. My affordable, budget-buying heart is thrilled.
I ended up purchasing three colors – Medium Blue (a classic dark wash seen above); Light Wash (has slight distressing and a cute button fly); and White (definitely need to wear nude underwear with these). My absolute favorite part? The 4-inch inseam. I’m incredibly self-conscious about my thighs, and these actually provide coverage but still flatter. I would say they all fit TTS – I went with my usual size 4. I maybe could’ve sized down to a 2 in the Light Wash, but I don’t mind a looser fit.
You probably won’t see me reaching beyond these three pairs of affordable denim shorts for the rest of summer!
If you’re looking for more style inspiration, I still love the spring wardrobe that I built last year!
