One of the many trivial casualties of the pandemic and quarantine life was my makeup collection. I think I wore a full face of makeup maybe three times in 2020 – quite the change from the girl that couldn’t go to the grocery store without full glam! I even made the decision to part with my vintage vanity table (one of the very first DIY projects Ryan and I ever tackled!) and downsize all my makeup items to a large train case. I’m not complaining about this lifestyle change one bit; however, I unfortunately had to part with several products thanks to them sitting idle in said train case and reaching their expiration date.
Now as I start to wear a little more makeup on a daily basis, I’m able to reevaluate what I’m looking for in products and essentially start over! Unless it’s for a special occasion, I’m amazed at how much less fuss I want with makeup these days. Gone are the days of full coverage foundation and 10-step eye shadow looks! 😉 Lightweight and natural are my end-game. I’m so much happier in my skin, and therefore I’m not afraid to have imperfections and the natural texture of my skin show through. I never, ever thought I’d get to this point, and it’s SO freeing.
It’s also of the utmost importance to me now that any and all products I use are as clean as possible and, of course, cruelty-free. Luckily for me, it’s 2021 and many cosmetic brands are getting with the program on both those fronts. Including drugstore/affordable options!
Here are some clean beauty products for spring that are on constant rotation in my everyday routine!
Naturium Vitamin C Complex Serum. I rotate through Vitamin C serums pretty regularly – most seem similar to me and get the job done. However, I can see myself repurchasing this one when I run out! It’s a good concentrated formula and leaves my skin looking healthy (and not sticky!).
Honest Beauty Everything Primer in Glow. You know how Jennifer Aniston always has that gorgeous California glow? That’s what this is in a bottle. I. Am. Obsessed. It’s great both on its own for no-makeup days and worn under makeup.
Alima Pure Satin Matte Powder Foundation. I’ve always been a powder foundation girl at heart, but it’s really hard to find a formula that doesn’t cake up and/or cling to dry patches. Well, I don’t know what witchcraft is in this foundation, but it’s incredible. It gives my skin the prettiest natural finish that seems to get better throughout the day. Can’t recommend it enough, especially because they offer an insane color range and you can purchase samples before committing to the full size! My perfect match is Beige 2.
LOTS of bareMinerals! Obviously, I’m on a powder product kick, so I revisited some old tried-and-true products and discovered a couple other gems. The concealers in Bisque and Well-Rested are OG staples for good reason. They cover and brighten better than any liquid product I’ve ever tried. The Hydrating Mineral Veil Finishing Powder makes your skin look like a real-life Instagram filter (and extends the life of your foundation!). Faux Tan is possibly the best bronzer I’ve ever used – such a great neutral, not orange, tone! – and the loose mineral blush in Hint is perfection. Both these products paired with the glow primer mentioned above are *chef’s kiss.*
Honest Beauty 2-in-1 Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer. I love not having to reach for two separate lash products! This formula is more about length than volume, but it can be built up without clumps. The key to this mascara is to apply the products to one eye at a time. Let the primer dry for at least 30 seconds to a full minute before going in with the mascara. This will help prevent any smudging and transfer later in the day!
