What I Read in December 2020 + Reviews

It’s about that time to close out the last year of reading with reviews for what I read in December 2020. As I usually do around the holidays, I went in heavy with the romances and rom-coms – that’s about all my attention-span could handle.

What I Read in December 2020

A ROGUE OF ONE’S OWN (A League of Extraordinary Women #2) by Evie Dunmore
My rating & review: 4 stars. I think I liked this one even more than the first. It’s always fun and refreshing to read about a strong, independent woman in the regency era. Lady Lucie was exactly that and much more. AND, HOLY CRAP TRISTAN. The love/hate chemistry is insane. Can’t wait for the next book.

HEAD OVER HEELS (Lucky Harbor #3) by Jill Shalvis
My rating & review: 4 stars. Chloe and Sawyer! Probably my favorite couple of this series so far. I adored following Chloe’s growth as an individual, and Sawyer was all sorts of swoon. Together, their story and relationship was paced well. I’m also glad there were continued glimpses into the lives and relationships of the sisters/couples from the first two books.

TOOLS OF ENGAGEMENT (Hot & Hammered #3) by Tessa Bailey
My rating & review: 4 stars. This was way better than the second in the series. Bethany was a shockingly very-relatable character – for me, at least, it was good to read about a character who struggles with perfectionism/anxiety in an accurate, realistic tone. The reality show side-story was unnecessary, but Wes more than made up for it.

LUCKY IN LOVE (Lucky Harbor #4) by Jill Shalvis
My rating & review: 4 stars. I’m clearly on a roll with this series and still enjoying it! This book introduced three new characters to follow, and their little club is just adorable. Mallory and Ty were SO cute and sexy (without being over-the-top).

THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS by Jenny Bayliss
My rating & review: 3 stars. This was a cute read for the holidays and to close out the year. Unfortunately, something about it was lacking. Kate’s dates were somewhat repetitive and predictable – I wanted more of her backstory with Matt. While the ending was cute and what I hoped for, I guess I wanted more? Maybe an epilogue? It wrapped up too perfectly and quick.

Currently reading: The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins and HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style by Elizabeth Holmes

I really enjoyed Tools of Engagement and I liked the third better than the second as well. I liked 12 Dates of Christmas, but you are right, we could have used more about Matt. I am about to start The Wife Upstairs for book club, I cant wait!
