I enjoy putting together a house project list every year. Not only is it fun to dream big (and realistically), it also helps us decide what the priorities are and map out a budget for the year.
Reflecting back on last year’s house update, so much of that post still holds true. No, this isn’t our forever home, and we would love to move sometime in the future. However, now even more so thanks to COVID, we’re beyond thankful for what we have. I love the home that we’ve created and continue to renovate to make it everything we want. We’re home now a majority of the time, so we might as well make the best of it, right?!
House Project Plans for 2021
Finish the family room renovation.
WE’RE ALMOST THERE. The room technically has been finished since mid-November, but since Christmas decor went up at that point this is the first opportunity I have to decorate for everyday vibes. A couple lamps, end tables and shelf decor pieces are all that’s left. We also still need to put a fresh coat of paint on the windows and replace the blinds. Here’s the inspiration board that we started with.
Repaint the front door.
An easy project that’s necessary since Finn has scratched the hell out of the current paint job.
Replace hardware on all the interior doors.
Just like the stair banister, this should be an easy update! We haven’t decided on knobs or more modern handles yet, but they’ll definitely be a matte black.
New stair banister/railing.
Still the only thing left on the first floor that has the old school oak wood that we’ve worked so hard to cover/replace! This should be a simple swap with something more updated and modern.
Replace stairwell and upstairs carpet.
We figured we’d have to do this at some point, but thanks to a burst pipe that ruined the carpet in our guest room we’re having to do this sooner than later. We already have a pretty good idea of type/style of carpet we want, so it’s just a matter of getting samples for color and estimates for the actual work.
Finish painting upstairs bedrooms.
All the walls and ceilings are painted, so one window and closet doors in two of the rooms are what’s left.
Redo/renovate the front living room … again!
This room is ever-changing (the most-recent evidence), and it looks like 2021 is going to bring another drastic renovation. Hopefully the last one! Ryan plans to build floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall built-ins to basically create the at-home library of my dreams. I’m pretty excited and will probably document the whole thing to share.
We also want to replace the vanity in our downstairs half bathroom and depending on how things go tackle the upstairs bathrooms. We’ll see where our budget is at when we’re finished with the priorities! 😉
