All the Hair Products I Use + Love

There’s a common, well-known fact in my family – if I’m not happy with my hair, nobody is happy. Sad, but true! Ha!

My hair always has been a defining characteristic of my appearance – I know how lucky I am to have a lot of straight, smooth hair (even though it often drives me crazy!). I’m definitely one of those people who’d rather have a good hair day over a good makeup day … okay, well obviously it’d be ideal to have both, but especially life in the time of COVID, I’m not even wearing makeup so hair it is! πŸ˜‰

go-to hair products

I’m not afraid to experiment with different hair products as long as nothing is too harsh or will cause any issues with my highlights. That said, I’ve settled into a solid routine that has my hair looking and feeling better than ever! So I thought it was high time I share all the hair products I use and love.

Something to keep in mind is that like any and all beauty products, what works for me may or may not work for you and your hair type. I’ve learned over the years that instead of fighting my natural texture (aka I have none), it’s best to just work with what I have! I focus mainly on products that will keep my hair straight and smooth with some volume at the roots.

Here’s a a breakdown of all the products I use separated into three categories.

all the hair products i use

In the shower

Olaplex No. 4 Shampoo and No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner

A game-changing duo. My hair feels much healthier, stronger and thicker since I switched to these products.

Matrix So Silver Shampoo

I use this every other time I shampoo my hair to cut out any brass or warm tones in my blonde highlights.

Pravana The Perfect Blonde Masque

To really kick any brass and give my highlights an overall “cooler” effect. I only use this once or twice a month.

Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector

A once a week treatment that has made my hair stronger and healthier! The way I use it is I jump in the shower before bed to get my hair wet, apply the treatment, put my hair up in a bun with a silk scrunchie, and sleep on it overnight. Followed up by a quick shampoo and condition the next morning, my hair looks like I just had it professionally done!

Pre-blow dry

Kristin Ess Detangling Tonic

If you suffer from ridiculous tangles, this is the product you’ve been searching for! No detangling product has ever worked as well as this spray – my brush literally glides through my hair with no snags or resistance.

Kristin Ess Blow Dry Mist

This is a great hair primer that helps to cut down blow drying time and provide heat protection.

Aquage Uplifting Foam

Thanks to The Small Things Blog, we all already know how amazing this product is. I don’t use it every single time I blow dry my hair, but instead save it when I want extra volume for a special occasion or if I need product in my hair for a half-up/up style.

Dry + next-day styling

Living Proof Dry Volume Blast

A texture spray is a daily essential in my routine to keep my hair from looking lifeless. I have yet to find a texture spray as good as this one!

Hask Charcoal Purifying Dry Shampoo

A dry shampoo that actually makes my roots feel and look clean.

Kristin Ess Beach Wave Spray

On the rare occasion I put some curl or wave in my hair, this is my go-to spray for shine, separation and a light hold.

Kristin Ess Working Texture Loose Styling Powder

A must for braids and twists!

I most-commonly wash and style my hair every other day, usually coordinating with the days I run and work out! Sometimes I can stretch my hair an extra day, but if I do those are typically the days you’ll find my hair in a messy low ponytail or braids. To preserve my hair between wash days, I sleep with it in a high pony using a silk scrunchie to prevent any breakage or creasing. The bottom half of my hair stays down since it’s too short to be put up, and that’s easily refreshed with a flat iron.
