7 Things I Loved in August | a New Hobby, Beauty Buys + Show Suggestions

It’s hard to believe that we’re saying goodbye to August already! The last few months have hardly felt like a true summer – let’s face it, what are days of the week anymore? – but I still always mourn the loss of a slower pace and ease of lifestyle when this season fades away. But, that said I am definitely looking forward to the breath of fresh air that comes this time of year. Let’s celebrate by chatting about 7 things I loved in August!

A new hobby

Here’s something I never thought I’d write – I’m learning how to play ukulele! Yep, Ryan surprised me with one after I shared how interested I was. The hours of YouTube videos I watched also might have dropped a hint. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This picture was taken approximately 10 seconds after I opened the package, and I think the pure, unfiltered joy is obvious! I already have some, albeit minimal, experience playing the guitar, so I’ve picked it up fairly quick (at a super beginner level!). It has been so fun to pick up a musical instrument again and find a new enjoyable, pressure-free activity that lets my mind escape for an hour a day. And, even though I have a long LONG way to go, my cute strap and felt picks are good motivators.

Beauty buys

I’ve already shared my love of Versed skin care products here and here, so it should be no surprise that I’ve added a few more products to my lineup! The Baby Cheeks All-in-One Hydrating Milk is exactly the product I’ve been looking for for my A.M. routine. It’s all my skin needs for a refresh and to clean off any skin care products from the night before. Combined with the Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream, my skin has never felt softer and looked more hydrated throughout the day.

Lastly, the new Body Acne-Control Body Mist is heaven sent. I can’t sing this product’s praises enough! I’ve suffered from bad shoulder and back acne since my teen years, and the breakouts always are at an all-time high throughout the summer months thanks to sweat, sunscreen, etc. While not an overnight miracle cure, this spray has gradually healed existing breakouts and kept new ones away. It doesn’t dry out my skin, and bonus that it doesn’t have the strong medicated smell like other acne products!

Even though I’m not wearing much makeup these days, brows are something I still do every single day. And, the addition of the CoverGirl Easy Breezy Volumizing Brow Gel to my collection makes filling in my brows, quite literally, a breeze. Just enough product is on the wand to fill in any sparse areas and fluff up my brow hairs a bit. I’ve also used it over a brow pencil, and the hold/staying power is great!

What we watched

If you love Queer Eye, you need to add Say I Do to your Netflix watch list! It’s the sweetest show, and I am head over heels for Gabriele, Jeremiah and Thai. Seriously, how do I get these three men in my life?!

We started a re-watch of Parks and Recreation at the beginning of quarantine, and finally finished just last week. I forgot just how hilarious every episode is, and it was exactly what Ryan and I needed at the end of some very long days.
