I have a confession to make. SPF is not a regular part of my daily skin care.
Cue the gasps, I know.
This isn’t from a lack of knowledge or trying, not that that’s an excuse! But, here’s the thing. Practically every sunscreen I’ve ever tried has resulted in horrible breakouts – why would I want to apply something good to my skin when I experience the opposite?! I also prefer mineral vs. chemical sunscreens for their higher-level of protection and for obvious health reasons. But, mineral sunscreens are tricky to come by, especially ones that won’t leave you looking like a ghost after application.
UNTIL NOW. Dun, dun, dun. Feel the suspense. 😉
If the above description sounds just like your love/hate relationship with SPF, stick with me. I finally found a daily mineral sunscreen that works.
Ladies and gents, I give you Versed Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35!
Psst … just to be clear, this isn’t sponsored – I’m not even using affiliate links! I just really, really love this product.
Isn’t she cute?! I love the eco-friendly packaging – it’s made with 79% post consumer recycled plastic! – and the bright yellow color. That alone makes me happy to apply this SPF every morning!
The nitty gritty
Versed is a clean drugstore beauty brand, which I first discovered while browsing the skin care aisle of my local Target! (The SPF unfortunately isn’t available at Target, but I’m going to guess that it will be in the future.) Not only are they committed to using only the cleanest ingredients in their products, they also aim to reduce waste and their carbon footprint as well as preserve our ecosystems. And, of course they’re vegan and cruelty-free! If that’s not enough reason to love this brand then I don’t know what is.
The Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen has an SPF 35 and contains 15.2% non-nano zinc oxide (the safest SPF available for our bodies and oceans!). It’s formulated for all skin types and skin tones and is non-toxic, pregnancy-safe, vegan and cruelty-free. It retails for $21.99.
Versed mineral sunscreen review
I admit that I was fairly skeptical after seeing the product for the first time. I mean, the sunscreen is somewhere between flesh-toned and straight-up neon orange. So maybe it won’t leave the usual white cast that mineral sunscreens are infamous for, but how in the world is this going to blend in?!
Well, consider me proven wrong because this sunscreen doesn’t leave a trace of anything behind! Just a healthy, natural-matte finish.
The creamy formula doesn’t leave behind any residue or pilling like some sunscreens do. I haven’t worn this under makeup yet, but based on the feel and how this product dries down I think it would make a good primer.
I’m happy to report that after more than a month of daily wear, I haven’t experienced one single breakout. Now that’s something to celebrate!
Because of my skin type, I’ve also been able to make this sunscreen pull double-duty as both sun protection and my A.M. moisturizer. The less products on my skin, the better so that is an added bonus!
I think that it’s safe to say that I’m an SPF convert – a welcome change! – and that the Versed Daily Mineral Sunscreen is a new staple in my routine.
