HAPPY NOVEMBER! Two months left of 2019, and the busiest season is officially upon us. Three inches of snow arrived in Wisconsin on Halloween last week, so honestly it already feels like the holidays are here … which has me equal parts ecstatic and “Lord, help me.” 😉
Like clockwork around this time every year, I haven’t been feeling much like myself. That explains last week’s unplanned absence because I honestly just wasn’t into anything, let alone getting creative for this space (that probably shows since I haven’t been too proud of a few recent posts). And, that’s okay! Taking a step back usually helps to clear my head and evaluate what’s happening, and sure enough I’m feeling better already. In a world where it seems like there’s so much pressure to always be “on,” just remember that it’s okay and important to take care of yourself and recognize when you need a minute. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I didn’t have a monthly loves post for September – I combined it with my last coffee chat! – so I’m happy to be back to regular programming. Here’s 9 things I loved in October.
I’m long overdue for an updated makeup routine and/or makeup favorites, but these are the standouts that have been getting me through.
+ Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. I always, always seem to come back to this foundation when nothing else is cooperating with my skin. Maybe I’m a closet powder foundation person and refuse to accept it! But, I think I need to get over it because I never think my skin looks beautiful, but I think it looks beautiful with this powder foundation. It does look a little heavy/powdery at first, but after a good setting spray it’s perfect. The product also seems to get better with wear throughout the day, if that makes sense. I use an itCosmetics brush to apply! Want a laugh circa 2014? Check out my original blog post that demonstrated this foundation … ah, the simpler times.
+ Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder. For those times when I get oily but don’t want to add more powder or product. This powder was made with witchcraft or something because it doesn’t add anything heavy or extra to my existing makeup, and it keeps the oil at bay until I take everything off.
+ Nivea Lip Care in Blackberry & Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper in Rosewood. Pretty sure I’ve sung the praises of both these products individually before but never together! This is THE ultimate combination for glossy, natural plum lips this fall/winter. I start with dotting the lip balm onto my lips and then patting the product in to create more of a lip stain. Followed up by a light coat of the gloss, and I’m good to go! Yes, I have to reapply, but I do with all lip products so who cares. This is a nice break from the heavy mattes that tend to be everywhere this time of year.
Elton John Farewell Tour Concert
We FINALLY got to see Elton John live, and it didn’t disappoint. He performed nearly everything I hoped he would.
‘Tis the season, right? We had plenty of below-average-temps for October, so I switched to my winter wardrobe a lot sooner than planned. There were no cute, lightweight sweaters with a midi skirt while frolicking in an apple orchard moments over here …
+ Abercrombie Snap Pullover. I think I’ve had this for two years now, and it’s still one of my most-worn pieces. So warm, so comfortable, and so easy to throw on and go when I don’t feel like thinking about an outfit.
+ J.Crew Tissue Turtlenecks. These go with literally everything.
+ Madewell Jeans. Probably my most-favorite of last month! I finally gave in to the hype, and my life is forever changed. No, I’m not kidding. After struggling to find the ideal pair of jeans for years, I could cry at how amazing these are. I went with a pair of Roadtrippers and Curvy High-Rise to start. You better believe I’ll be back for more.
What I Watched
Well, well, well – What If on Netflix is quite the twisty little show! It had been on my watch list since it came out because duh, Renee Zellweger. I do think her performance was a little weird/over-the-top/campy at times, but it totally worked. It’s from the same people that did Revenge (Emily VanCamp’s wardrobe on that show will forever be one of my favorites), so if you liked that then you’ll be into this show’s vibe.
What I’m looking forward to in November: Decorating for Christmas (yes, I’ve already started!); lots of streaming shows that are back (The Crown! Queer Eye! Jack Ryan!); and spending Thanksgiving with my family. I’m also working hard to execute some fun posts in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for lots of new!
