Our home decor has been pretty stagnant for a few years now. I’m glad that I decorate in a neutral, everyday-type-of-way where I don’t feel the need to change decor every month or every season; however, that also sometimes leaves me bored with looking at the same stuff day in and day out. And, lately in particular I’ve been feeling super uninspired by our home and surroundings, so I knew it was time to do something.
Starting with a new rug for the front sitting room. Talk about a small decor change that made a big impact!
If you need a refresher, here’s a shot of the room with the old rug. I still love these antique-style rugs, I do. The colors were just starting to look blah to me, and they didn’t really match the overall vision I have for this room and our home.
For some reason, I couldn’t find a recent picture of this space so I had to pull from Instagram. FROM 2017! Talk about a throw back! So much more than just the rug has changed in this room since then.
Dare I say the old rug was too neutral? IS THERE SUCH A THING?! 😉
On the flip side, the new rug still provides a neutral base. But, the pop of black and subtle pattern updates everything to a more modern, fresher look!
And, of course the new rug is Finley approved!
Even though I knew that I loved the new rug right away, it still took me a couple days to adjust. I honestly didn’t think something as simple as a rug could entirely change the look and feel of a room! Do I feel like the coffee table is now the wrong color, and the chairs don’t fit the vibe of the room anymore? Absolutely. But, such is life that I don’t have an unlimited budget to replace furniture whenever I feel like it. I think as I redecorate with different textiles and seasonal decor everything will fall into place to look cohesive enough … for now.
