Coffee with Karly | Random Thoughts After a Week With No Heat

Hey, hey! Happy Friday. Did everybody survive the time change? I’m definitely digging the extra hour of sleep, but I fully admit that I’m ready to go to bed by 4:30 in the afternoon. Total darkness by early afternoon is a total buzzkill. Anyway, lots of random things to chat about over coffee this morning so let’s jump into coffee with Karly vol. 3.

If you didn’t see our current house woe on Instagram, our furnace died last week! Yep, just as temperature lows are dipping into winter territory our trusty 22-year-old furnace decided to go on a permanent vacation. Timing was impeccable as always. Let me tell you – living without heat for nearly a week is not the way to go. I’ve never spent so much time in bed and/or under blankets. I personally want to thank the person that invented space heaters and heated blankets/mattress pads. Total lifesavers through it all. Our heat happily was restored Tuesday, and I may or may not occasionally turn it up to 75 F just because I can. The things we take for granted …

Unfortunately because of that fiasco, my to-do list took a hit. It’s hard to concentrate when your hands are so cold that your fingers are blue. Makes it kind of hard to type.

On that note, Taylor Swift’s Reputation is out today! *jumps up and down*

Have you watched and/or finished season two of Stranger Things yet? When I wrote this month’s currents, I wasn’t overly impressed. We’ve since finished it, and they totally won with the last 30 seconds. I’m hooked and already dying for season three. That still doesn’t change my mind about episode seven – pointless. Oh, and does anyone else find Hopper kind of attractive? Maybe it’s just me … but not according to this!

Everyone and their mom was talking about the launch of Hearth and Hand by Magnolia this week. Ehh, I was slightly underwhelmed. There’s some pretty pieces, but overall I was left wanting more. Some garland (couldn’t find it online, sorry!) and a doormat were all that came home with me.

Also, can we pump the brakes on all the Christmas stuff? I mean, more power to you if that’s your prerogative to decorate now. No judgment. BUT IT’S NOT EVEN THANKSGIVING YET.

Since I’ve dipped back into the world of powder foundation, I’m thinking about giving the original bareMinerals a try. Suggestions? Yes, no? I figure if it’s good enough for Julia then it’s good enough for all of us.

I need one (or all) of you to make the decision for me whether I should cut my hair or not. This is what I go through EVERY SINGLE TIME my hair finally is long. I love it, but I also don’t feel like it has a lot of style – you know? I’m thinking Cameron Diaz circa The Holiday or Kate’s clavicut might be in my future. We’ll see.

Okay, well this might be the most pointless and random blog post that I’ve ever written. But hey – that’s how it goes sometimes! Always love chatting with all of you.

Have a great weekend!

In case you missed this week’s post, I shared a six-month update on my battle with negative body image and what I do to keep my hair healthy.

  1. oh girl. i am SO with you on Hopper. See, we are totally twins/besties πŸ˜‰ I was underwhelmed with Chip & Jo’s line, but their style isn’t really my style so I didn’t expect to be wowed. I still got a couple of things though haha. I say cut your hair because it always grows back!

    • We seriously were meant to be. WHY DONT WE LIVE CLOSER?! It seriously saddens me, lol. I’m such a freak about my hair – my appt isn’t for another three weeks but I’m like consumed by what I want to do to it. Such problems haha.

  3. Glad your heater is fixed! I would’ve been miserable because I hate being cold… like I can’t function right! haha And I just grabbed a wood tray and they measuring cups/spoons from the Hearth & Hand launch. The collection is cute but felt it lacked a little too…. I don’t think I’ll get anything else, unless it’s on clearance haha

Egads that sucks but yup know about this as no heart during Sandy for 2 weeks in November. And I do like Stranger Things however the whole octopus demon thing and Dart monster zombies don’t hold my interest much. I think it is the casting and the characters and the nostalgia of a smart phone free 80s that makes it work.

  5. YES episode 7 was totally pointless, and the last few episodes totally sold me and I’m excited for season 3! I’m so sorry your furnace broke just as it’s getting cold out. I felt the same way when we were without power for a week after Hurricane Irma, I will never take AC for granted again! Happy Friday <3

    • Oh gosh, it’s crazy what we take for granted when we suddenly don’t have it anymore – especially household appliances and things that we’re just used to having! Hope you’re having a good weekend, girl!

  6. So sorry about your furnace! 22 years is a long time. I am impressed. Also impressed you lasted that long without heat. I need to watch stranger things. I feel like I am the only one. Hope you h ave a great weekend!

    • Haha, we didn’t have much of a choice, so like I said thank goodness for space heaters! It’s probably a miracle our furnace lasted as long as it did anyway. Happy Sunday!

One of the things I loved from the Hearth & Home collection were the round wooden boards with little feet. I feel like they could be used all over the place, but I have yet to get one home with me! I struggle with the whole hair thing, too! I recently went for a shorter look and absolutely love it, though.

    • Yes, those wooden boards would work anywhere and everywhere! You should totally get one. πŸ˜‰ I still can’t make up my mind about my hair!

We are obsessed with Stranger Things! And I totally agree on both points – the last 30 seconds were everything… and Hopper is attractive. Ha! Love this – happy Friday!

I was downtown yesterday and Christmas music was playing in all of the stores. :-/ Speaking of stores, I went back to Old Navy (a different location this time) and they didn’t have that sweatshirt! πŸ™ The Hearth and Home stuff is just OK to me too. On a brighter note, you look beautiful in that photo and I hope that you have a lovely weekend! πŸ™‚

    • Oh, rats! Maybe the sweatshirt will come back in stock for you before the holidays. Happy Sunday!

I hear you about Christmas, I’m already feeling behind! I think the cut you’re thinking about would look cute on you, just be sure because you usually regret going shorter!

  12. I just cut my hair recently and I feel like it looks so much healthier and full of body. Ugh girl I’m sorry about your furnace! We lost our top AC unit for a few days so I get it…..on the flip side πŸ˜‰ I love that first pic of you! You look so gorgeous and happy. Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Awe, thanks sweet girl! I’m sure being without A/C in the Florida heat is dreadful. It’s crazy what we take for granted these days, right? I love your slightly shorter hair, it really suits you!
