Top 5 To-Do List for November

Happy Friday, folks! It has been a long week, for more reasons than one – am I right? On top of all the election stress, I also battled a light case of the flu for most of the week so I’m feeling super behind on everything. For hardly ever being sick, I seem to get sick at the most inopportune times! As a result, I put together a top 5 to-do list for November. I know that we already are into the second weekend of the month, but it’s never too late to put together a to-do list in my opinion. I need all the help that I can get to wrap my head around what needs to be accomplished in the next few weeks!

Top 5 To-Do List for November

Follow me on Instagram! Full outfit details here.

| Plan and carryout all our Thanksgiving hosting duties. It has been quite a few years since I last hosted Thanksgiving, and that was back in mine and Ryan’s little Iowa row home when I had basically zero kitchen skills. So, I feel like this is my “real” first time as a Thanksgiving host, and there’s a lot to do! Menu planning, shopping, tabletop decor, etc. I know I’ll get it together, but sheesh – I’m overwhelmed right now.

| Finish all our open house projects. I know that you’re all probably sick of hearing about our house projects, but that’s the biggest activity happening over here lately. The half bathroom, sitting room, dining room … that’s half of our downstairs, so we have to get going! Luckily at this point, a lot of what has to be finished is minor details and decor.

| Get into the holiday spirit. This seems silly to put on a to-do list, but I’m afraid that if I don’t that I won’t enjoy any of it! I’ve had a little taste of Christmas already since we took advantage of the nice weather and put up our outdoor lights yesterday. (Don’t worry – we don’t actually turn anything on until Dec. 1!) We already ordered and received our holiday cards, so now I just have to address those to have ready to mail after Thanksgiving. I also want to get a head start on gift shopping and wrapping.

| Plan and book our next vacation. Because of Ryan’s line of work and the schedule that he carries, he has to request his week-long vacations almost a year in advance. And then, we have to wait for it to get approved before we can move forward with booking anything. My fingers are crossed that we will know before Thanksgiving if his time off is approved so we can go ahead with our plans. I plan to talk about our travels in a separate post, but we hope to head somewhere warm the end of February.

| Reevaluate blog content and design. This has been on my mind for a while because man oh man – have I been riding the struggle bus with this space. It’s not even that I have a shortage of ideas, but rather I seem to lose the motivation to execute those ideas. I also have been questioning myself as to what direction the blog is going and/or where I want to take it. Part of that is because I self-admittedly have fallen into the comparison hole, and I need to pull myself out of it. But, it never hurts to take a step back and see what is and isn’t working.

I know this isn’t the most exciting post today, but maybe my top 5 to-do list for November also helped you put a few items down on paper that you’d like to accomplish this month, too! The weekend couldn’t be here at a better time, so I hope that you all are able to take a small break and hit the refresh button.

See you next week!

Sometimes the stress of the holidays can put a damper on your holiday spirit, so I love that you put that on there so you can remember to enjoy it all too! Fingers crossed that Ryan gets approved for your vacay, and I hope that you’re feeling better!

    • 11.16.16

Yes! I have to always remind myself to enjoy it all otherwise I spoil it for myself. I’m really trying my hardest so far!

Girl- you need a bubble bath and a glass of wine:) Here’s to fingers crossed that he gets the requested time off, and that the holiday spirit comes soon! We’re hosting thanksgiving too this year, and I’m slowly starting to grasp just what all I need to do in the next two weeks. And I know just what you mean about executing ideas. I feel like every time I have one, I watch the time frame come and pass. It’s so easy to get burnt out on it all. I hope this next week is full of good health and relaxing days!

Your comment made me smile when I first read it – I would give anything to escape to a spa for the day with a big ol’ glass of wine! Life is just crazy these days. Hope you’re having a good week, too – yay for Thanksgiving hosting duties!

Totally with you on the blog stuff..I have started thinking about how I really want to redo my site and really make the effort to post more. I just got so busy and tired during the week ugh. I am SO sorry to hear that you were not feeling well this week too. Chris was really sick last week and I was the week before. Fun times. :-/ I hope that you are feeling better now though and enjoying your weekend!!

As far as blog design goes if you seriously want to change something up I highly encourage hiring it out. I used a blog designer in March for my blog and I am obsessed with my design (plus I don’t want to majorly change any aspects of it because I paid so much for the whole process.) If you can find a good designer that listens to what you want and helps you execute your vision it really helps you out in the end.

    • 11.13.16

That’s a great tip, Amanda! I’ve had a lot of luck with premade themes in the past that I just customize to my own fonts, colors, etc., but maybe paying extra for my exact vision is worth it!

Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your blog and its content! I look forward to your new ideas, but as a reader (who doesn’t have a blog) I can see how it’s easy to fall into the comparison game. For what it’s worth, I make it a point to check yours every day and would rather read posts from someone who is similar to me. Those other types of blogs are fun to read every once in awhile, but it’s ones like yours I come back to every day.

Such a sweet comment, thank you so much for your kind words! I always strive to keep it real and relatable around here, so I’m glad that you feel that way.

So sorry you were sick! Hope you’re feeling better! Good for you for hosting Thanksgiving! That is a big responsibility! And I love all your house projects! Keep them coming! Makes me motivated to work on ours!

    • 11.13.16

Thanks, lady! I have so many home posts planned – we just have to finish all the projects and rooms first, ha!

  12. 11.11.16

So sorry to hear that you were sick this week– hopefully you’re feeling a lot better and can get some rest this weekend. I love when you share your house projects, and can’t wait to see what other updates you guys are working on! I’ve been thinking a little bit about my blog lately too and what I want to do with it going in the new year- it can definitely be overwhelming at times, but your content is always amazing and something I look forward to reading!

    • 11.13.16

I know I already told you this, but thank you for this comment! It really helped to lift my spirits the other day. I think I’m not alone in this mindset since we all want to go into the New Year on a good foot!

  13. 11.11.16

I am so with you girl! I have so many ideas but then the actual sitting down and executing it……such a struggle!

I agree, it’s been quite a week! I think we all need to hit the refresh button about now, and the holidays will help us do that (I hope!) Try not to stress over it all, the important things will get done!

Good luck with getting the vacation approved! It stinks that you have to do it a year in advance, but at least you have plenty of time to plan it! 🙂
