Weekend Reading

Hello friends, and happy Friday! How IS everybody? Are you soaking up every last bit of summer that’s left? I was under the weather for a majority of the week, so I’m in catch up mode. Thankfully, the temperatures and humidity have been through the roof, so at least I haven’t missed out on ample outdoor time. There’s nothing worse than being down for the count in the summer!

Weekend Reading

I’m the first to admit that while I love the easy-going flow of summer, I am ready for fall. Bring on the jeans, scarves and pumpkin everything. We also just booked our three-year wedding anniversary getaway to Door County, Wis., in October, and I could not be more excited. Have any of you ever visited? We’re giving Airbnb our first go, and we’re staying in a beautiful loft apartment of a newly-built farmhouse. I’m pretty sure that I already scared the owner of the house with my note to her about how her home is what my dreams are made of and that she should be best friends with Joanna Gaines. I’m such a loser. Door County apparently is called the New England of the Midwest, so I look forward to the charming towns, fall colors, and all of the seafood. Yes, please.

In other news, our kitchen still isn’t finished. Yep, you read that right – damn near three months later, there still are projects to be finished. Our contractor left us for a surprise week and a half vacation, and quite a few of the cabinet doors/drawers had to be reordered because they were damaged. Such fun, right? Oh well – I’ve resigned myself to the fact that at this point, it’s not even worth being upset or angry about. It will get finished eventually, and it will be perfect when it is finished. At least the space is functional, and I’ve been able to get back into a regular cooking schedule.

On that note, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite reads from around the Web this week for you to enjoy with your morning cup of coffee (or two).

Kelly’s labor and delivery story is such a positive one and has completely put my childbirth fears at ease. If you’re terrified of the process (like me!), then this is a must read.

Zac Efron only gets more adorable with age. His meet and greet with the U.S. Olympics gymnastics team is way too cute.

Have you ever heard of BlockPosters.com? I have Pinterest to thank for this incredible find. I’ve been on a DIY wood sign kick lately, and this site makes it SO easy to get the lettering to the correct size. Genius.

A couple honest reads from Katie and Lindsay gave me the feels and more perspective. Finding a balance between blogging and life can be difficult, but can we at least get back to it being fun?

I finally finished Gilmore Girls this week. Naturally, I now want all of these items.

Missy Franklin (LOVE her!) had a solid lineup of books with her in Rio! Check them out.

And, shameless promotion – in case you missed it, I shared a step-by-step tutorial for my favorite braided summer ‘do.

Have a fantastic weekend, everybody – see you next week!

I hate to hear you’ve been sick! That really never is fun this time of year. And of all the kitchen complications- that’s got to be frustrating. Love your approach it it though. And the links- I’ve been loving the Zac and Simone story line, and Missy’s list seems awesome!

That sucks that you’re still dealing with the kitchen renovation! Hopefully the last few remaining projects will go by super quickly! On a happy note, I thought that your block sign lettering turned out so good! I totally wouldn’t have been able to do it! I hope that you have a great weekend!

It’s definitely sucky, but I’m trying to keep a positive attitude about it. We’re almost there, it has just taken a lot longer than originally promised. I think that’s how those things go, though! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks, girl – I appreciate that! And, yes – I’m glad I can at least use it and put stuff away where I can. I just can’t wait for the day when I’m not thinking about who’s coming to the house! Good luck with your event this weekend!
