These days, it’s rare that I go shopping or purchase things for myself. I would much rather put the money toward our home decor and renovations, and ever since I adopted a “less is more” attitude, I don’t find myself going to the store and mindlessly adding products to my cart that I’m not even sure I truly love or want. Rather, I only shop now when I have a need to fill a gap in my wardrobe or I’m looking for a few key pieces to invest some decent money in. Sure, I still get the urge to just go shopping for fun (who doesn’t?!), but I try to reserve that for special occasions.
That being said, I recently treated myself to a few items to spruce up my fall and winter wardrobe. Everybody and their mom probably owns this striped tunic at this point, and I can understand why – it’s comfortable, a great length to wear with jeans or leggings, and it’s cheap. I’ve enjoyed pairing it with this oversized blanket scarf that steers away from the traditional fall foliage colors and instead brings it more of an understated, rich jewel tone look to any top.
I was thrilled when this coat from the Thakoon for Kohl’s DesignNation collection went on clearance, and I scored it for even less thanks to coupons. I always have wanted a coat with a pop of pink in it, and this coat wins that award for the color being incorporated into a plaid pattern. And, since I have a weakness for jewelry, particularly statement earrings, I couldn’t pass up these emerald Kendra Scott jewels that came in my latest RocksBox set. These will be on major repeat throughout the holidays, and I hope to pair them with an LBD (think Angelina Jolie circa the Oscars how ever many years ago) for a wedding reception we are attending at the end of January. Psst – if you want a free month of RocksBox, enter msinthemidwestxoxo at checkout.
What have you treated yourself to lately?
