At last, the day has arrived – I’m here to share a home update!
Our entryway foyer is the first “room” in our home to really be finished. I had a very focused and definitive vision for this space, and it (thankfully) came together relatively easy and quick with the help of my handyman husband.
Hi, dark oak wood – it’s the 90’s calling and we want you back. What were people thinking during that time when building and designing a home? An oak film overlay on your front door to match the floor is just not okay. And, boob lights = the bane of my existence.
Luckily, we’ve come a long way. The foyer is now everything that I ever hoped it would be and more.
Ryan was a bit apprehensive about the black front door at first, but now he couldn’t be happier that he trusted me. See, Pinterest inspiration doesn’t always let you down! It makes a bold statement, but what could potentially be too harsh is offset by the lightweight, airy feel of the curtains. In addition to being a decorative accent, the curtains also serve as an added element of privacy at nighttime when we pull them in front of the sidelights. Pretty and functional – my kind of decor.
The black console table was custom made by my dad back when we lived in a row home in Iowa – I’m thrilled that it has held up through four moves and has found a home in each of the places that we’ve lived. While I have it decorated pretty neutral and timeless at the moment, I’m looking forward to creating different vignettes as the holidays approach.
I also purchased and will be adding this accent rug from World Market to the space – it currently is waiting patiently at my parent’s house so I could save on shipping costs. I love how classic this rug is, and the chunky weave jute will add another level of texture to the space. Plus, whenever it comes time to replace the flooring and redo the stairwell, it still will go with anything.
Even though this space has been finished for a couple weeks now, my heart still skips a beat whenever I come downstairs in the morning or when I walk by during the day. I wanted the entrance to our home to make a statement but still be classic and welcoming, and I believe that we accomplished just that.
