Now & Later | Stitched-Stripe Dress

Although I want nothing more than to wear boyfriend jeans and sundresses right now, it’s still not quite realistic with the current weather situation. One day it’s 70 degrees – the next, 40. This also makes shopping for new clothes right now very difficult; most stores have all their spring and summer inventory out, but it’s not a whole lot of fun to buy pieces that I know I can’t wear for another two or three months.

Because of this “dilemma,” I’ve mostly been looking for and purchasing items that are versatile enough to wear now and later when the temperatures finally warm up. I picked up this ultra-comfortable jersey dress from Old Navy last month during my birthday weekend shopping trip – the online photos really don’t do the dress justice! I adore the different shades of blue and intricate stitching details throughout the striped pattern. The elastic waistband also makes it super flattering on practically anybody.

Even though the dress material is rather lightweight, the three-quarter sleeve length makes it a great transitional piece between the seasons.

I love the look of a classic, long trench coat thrown over a comfortable dress and finished with a pair of booties. Fringe seems to be the new “it” trend as of late, so I thought these booties added a bit of a fun factor to an overall conservative outfit. I also wouldn’t – and won’t, come fall – hesitate to throw on a pair of opaque black or navy blue tights for an extra layer of warmth.
Once it warms up a bit, a simple switch-up of accessories makes this dress late spring- and summer-ready.
Nothing screams spring and summer more than hair in a low, messy bun with a straw fedora, accompanied by a brightly-colored straw tote (which would double well as a beach bag!), and a stylish, but comfortable pair of espadrilles. I also am a firm believer that every woman should own a denim jacket – they can be dressed up or down, and they are so easy to bring with wherever you go. Those peach flower earrings are just too adorable, too – can you imagine that little pop of color peering out from under the fedora? I’m loving the idea of it already.
How do you transition specific wardrobe items from winter to spring?

We have a store in Madison and in Glendale. We also have bunch of locations in the suburbs here. I work at the Southport location which is the only store that we have in the city. Its called Evereve. Here is the website:

  3. 3.25.15

We got hit with the crazy snow/weather last night! It's so gross and gloomy out today – kind of killing my happy, springy mood!

  4. 3.25.15

Thanks, girl! Yeah, I am with you on the straw tote – pretty sure that needs to be my new beach bag. πŸ™‚

  5. 3.25.15

It was the same way here last night! So now it's super wet and muddy in the backyard – lucky me for every time Finn has to go out!

  6. 3.25.15

Love what you do to transition your outfits! Sweaters and tights seriously make such a difference.

  7. 3.25.15

    Absolutely! I couldn't agree more.

  8. 3.25.15

Thanks, girl! Our weather is so nuts, too – not sure how much more I can take before I need to escape for a short vacation!

  9. 3.25.15

Right?! I'm right there with you, girlie!

  10. 3.25.15

It is so ridiculously comfortable – I'm pretty sure I will be living in it all summer. Yeah, those lace espadrilles need to be in my closet like yesterday.

  11. 3.25.15

Yes, fingers crossed – we got snow last night. Gross!

  12. 3.25.15

Yes, please do send me your store's website! There's one in Fond du Lac? Shocking – the shopping market up here certainly isn't that great, lol.

  13. 3.25.15

No, you certainly are not alone – we even got snow here last night! Crazy.

  14. 3.25.15

Thanks, girl! I have a long trench coat, but it's quite a few years old, so I think I'm due for a new one, too!

  15. 3.25.15

Thanks, lady! I'd have to say I'm more partial to the later look, too for the pops of color and for the mere fact that it's geared more toward when the weather finally turns nice around here. πŸ™‚

  16. 3.25.15

I'm with you, girl! A classic trench can pretty much complete any outfit.

  17. 3.25.15

I couldn't agree more! I saw it in the store and just knew it had to be mine.

  18. 3.25.15

    Right?! Dying over those espadrilles.

  19. 3.25.15

Love this idea of the now and later. . . did you get hit with the crazy snow on Monday, we did and it's terrible!! And it totally kills the spring vibe that was going strong, that dress looks like an awesome addition to the closet and I'm loving that tan h&m tote.

  20. 3.25.15

Such fun collages! I love them both. That straw tote is speaking to me and making me wish for summer πŸ™‚

Cute! I love it with the trench and classic bag. And seriously, what is up with the weather this week?! It was hailing/sleeting yesterday. Not ok.

I usually use a couple long sweaters over dresses without sleeves, tights, and fashion (not 100% winter) boots and then wait warms up change to flats, loose the tights and depending on the day…sometimes keep the sweater still lol. Those 2 versatile outfits are adorable!

  23. 3.24.15

I was about to say it's all about the accessories! That's what I do when I travel as well…..lots of basic colors and then add pops of color for accessories!

  24. 3.24.15

I love that dress! Very cute! Our weather is so all over the place it's crazy!

Love both looks! I also love transitioning pieces. This weather is ruining my outfit planning!! Ugh. Haha. I'm still breaking out my new white jeans tomorrow though when its 55. πŸ™‚ We have so many cute things at work for spring and summer but I totally hear ya on feeling like you can't wear it right now. I should send you our website. We have a store in your area. πŸ™‚
