Weekending // Las Vegas Recap

Happy Monday, all!

After several inquiries and requests, I am bringing you today a full recap of our Las Vegas anniversary trip! This is going to be quite a lengthy post with lots of photos, so let’s jump right into it.

We left Wisconsin on Weds., Sept. 24, around lunchtime, and we arrived in Vegas shortly before 2:30 p.m. The two-hour time change is one of my favorite parts of going out west because then you still feel like you have the entire day ahead of you. Coming home, on the other hand, is a different story.

We booked our entire trip through Southwest Vacations, so we got a great deal on plane tickets and a hotel room. After recommendations from several people, we decided to stay at The Mirage. This ended up being a perfect location for us as the hotel is right in the heart of the strip. I also casually dropped that we were visiting for our anniversary during check-in, and the concierge upgraded our room to a view of the strip. Bonus!

After freshening up and getting our bearings, we headed out to get a bite to eat and explore our hotel. Of course, that included a stop in front of the Kardashian Khaos store for kicks. For the record, I never actually went IN the store, but I had to at least get a photo op with it.

Then, it was time to hit the slots! Things started out great the night we went there in the gambling department, and then it pretty much went downhill from there. I suppose that’s part of the fun since we kept doing it! For the record, my favorite slot machines were The Wizard of Oz, Michael Jackson and Firehouse Hounds. Of course, I also had to take a photo with the Titanic slot machine – it was necessary.

Afterward, we decided to get a late-night appetizer at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, and then we called it a night!

With the time change, we were up at 7 a.m. the next morning and ready to explore.

We started at the Palazzo and Venetian, which ended up being my favorite hotels. I imagine it is a pretty close interpretation to what Italy really looks like, and we were blown away by the detail and construction of everything.

The Palazzo had their atrium all decorated for fall, and the flower displays were unbelievable. Pictures could never do it justice!

We continued our way down the strip, where we made a mandatory stop at Sprinkles Cupcakes.

We also stumbled upon the Polaroid store, which I could have gone banshee in with creating photo gifts and buying decor for our yet-to-be-known future home. They had a museum upstairs that was free to the public, and it was fascinating to see how the Polaroid camera has evolved over the years.  I became obsessed with this Polaroid wall that they had on display.

Then it was onto the Flamingo to check out the courtyard where they have a little tropical paradise complete with birds and animals.

We continued to walk and explore for another who-knows-how-long, when we finally made it down to MGM and I as so much begged Ryan to take the monorail back to our hotel. It was some of the best $10 we spent the whole trip.

When we got back to the room, I took a cat nap while Ryan showered and got ready for the night, and then it was my turn! Once we were ready to go, we headed out to Cesar’s Palace and The Bellagio.

The inside of The Bellagio is truly something to behold. That ceiling is all hand-blown Murano glass from Italy. I also was loving the fall decor everywhere!

We finally made our way into the atrium where they change the exhibit based on the season, and wow is all I can say. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, and it was so fun to walk around to see all the details. We even managed to work our way into the crowd and get a picture in the walkway – it was a popular place to be!

Like the previous night, we grabbed some food, lost a lot of money at the slot machines, and called it a night!

Friday was more laid back since we were a little tired from all the walking Thursday. We spent the morning at our hotel pool – we apparently were very lucky to score front row chairs considering we didn’t go down until 10 a.m. People typically are in line at 8 a.m. to go into the pool when it opens!

We then spent a couple hours shopping in Cesar’s Palace, and then it was back to the hotel to get ready for the show we were seeing that night! Have I ever mentioned that I am a die-hard Beatles fan? Well, if not, news flash – I am. So, it only was natural that we decided to see the Cirque de Soleil LOVE show that features all remastered tracks from the Fab Four. It was even more convenient that the show was right in our hotel, so we didn’t have to scramble to be somewhere. The show truly was unlike anything I’ve ever seen – it was worth it for the music alone, but the story that the acrobats and dancers told was beautiful and moving. I highly recommend it to anybody that is going to Vegas!

Saturday, our last day, we opted to engage in some more shopping and sight-seeing. We made it down to the end of the other side of the strip to check out New York, New York and the Cosmopolitan. We also definitely saved the best food for our last day. Based on a recommendation from my parents, we had lunch at Le Cafe inside Paris. Um, my only words are cheese fondue. Holy mother.

I also made a last-minute reservation via Open Table (one of the greatest apps ever) at Buddy V’s a.k.a. the Cake Boss’ restaurant. His restaurant only opened last year, and we randomly walked by it when we were in the Venetian. I was determined to eat there since I love his show on TLC. If you love Italian food and are looking for some serious desserts – Nutella chocolate cake, anyone? – this place is for you. It was the best meal we had the whole trip.

And, of course, no trip to Las Vegas would be complete without a visit to Lake Bellagio to watch the fountains. It really is as cool in person as it looks in movies.

So, that in a nutshell my friends was our trip! We had an absolute blast and came home very exhausted. I look forward to going back someday when we don’t feel the need to see every single thing and instead can enjoy more of our favorite spots that we found.

Most importantly, I was thankful that I got to spend five, fun-filled days with Ryan without any distractions from work, house hunting or general life stuff. It was a perfect trip and an even better anniversary.

We liked the Encore better than the Palazzo. I agree 100%. I hate clubs and I don't party anymore haha. I sound so old and boring I know!! πŸ™‚

Awwwww, this post made me so happy! I'm so glad you got to have a few exciting days away from the real world – the trip sounded perfect! xx

I bet the Christmas decorations are so beautiful – I'd love to get back there during that time of year someday to see them!

  7. 10.6.14

Thanks, girl! Yes, it definitely was a busy vacation, but it was worth it!

  8. 10.6.14

We loved the Palazzo, but I'm not sure I would stay there! We unfortunately didn't make it down that side of the strip where Encore and Wynn are, but I heard they are fabulous hotels. I think you could go to Vegas and not party or gamble if you don't want to – there is so much else to do!

  9. 10.6.14

Vegas is such a blast! I now understand why people come home exhausted! I got a couple fun purchases in – one is a surprise because I plan to share a review/swatches (hint hint) here on Wednesday, but my personal favorite is a coffee mug from the Britney Spears store at Planet Hollywood (where she currently is performing for two years). It's black and in gold glitter says Work Bitch. Ha! I just couldn't resist.

  10. 10.6.14

I LOVE all the seasonal decorations at the Palazzo and at the Bellagio! I've seen the winter / Christmas decorations a couple of times but never the autumn ones, so I really enjoyed your pics!

  11. 10.6.14

Wow, what a fun trip! You guys packed so much in…that's awesome!!

I'm so glad that you guys had a fun trip! That Beatles Love show is pretty fantastic. We stayed at the Palazzo one time, and the Encore the last time. We liked the Encore better. Vegas is one of those places where you can find plenty of fun things to do that don't involve partying or gambling. You just proved that with this great recap! I hope that you are having a great day so far too! πŸ™‚

  13. 10.6.14

Looks like you had a fabulous trip!!! Vegas really is a blast right? The last time we went we went to a show and I couldn't believe how amazing it was! Did you get any fun purchases in? πŸ˜‰ Glad you had a wonderful time but I agree sometimes you need a vacation from that vacation!

  14. 10.6.14

It was such a fun way to celebrate our anniversary a weekend early!

  15. 10.6.14

We definitely went with the intention to see every last thing, and that is exactly what we did. πŸ™‚ Hopefully you make it there soon!

  16. 10.6.14

Something you and dad haven't seen in Vegas?! I'm shocked! The courtyard at the Flamingo is so fun because you all of a sudden feel like you're somewhere tropical.

  17. 10.6.14

Yes, all that time with Ryan with no distractions was the best part of the whole trip. We definitely were on a mission to see every last thing, and I think we succeeded! Probably why we were so tired when we got home. πŸ™‚ I'm on a mission to find a copycat recipe for the cheese fondue – it was SO delicious.

  18. 10.6.14

Girl, that Nutella cake was on another level. You would have so much fun there for your birthday!

  19. 10.6.14

It was so much fun and perfect for us!

  20. 10.6.14

Hey, the great thing about Vegas is that it is such an easy trip to plan! Thanks, girl – it definitely was a fantastic few days with my hubs. πŸ™‚

  21. 10.6.14

How fun! We have no desire to go back anytime soon, but it was such a fun first trip out there.

  22. 10.6.14

You really should go! I think everybody should go at least once – I am not a gambler whatsoever, but we only hit the slots at nighttime and that was just enough for me. There is so much more to do and see there that you probably don't even have to gamble if you don't want.

  23. 10.6.14

Thank you! I love that dress, too – it was a great Target clearance find. I'll be honest – we aren't party people or much of gamblers either, but there is SO much more to do in Vegas than just that. We primarily gambled at night, and that was just enough!

  24. 10.6.14

Awe, thanks girl! I'm telling you – that cheese fondue is life changing. I've been scouring the Web since we got back to see if I can find a copycat recipe.

  25. 10.6.14

I mean, the hotels are just astonishing! We only were down by the pool for about an hour since there were other things we wanted to do, but I definitely could go back and spend more time there!

  26. 10.6.14

It was such a fun time! I also am madly in love with that maxi – one of the best Target clearance finds ever!

Sounds like you guys had an amazing time! You really got to explore and check out everything, so cool! Vegas looks pretty fun. My husband and I are partiers or gamblers so I've been hesitant to go. However, the hotels seem soooo awesome and I think those alone would be worht it!
